Milano Milano 8" Lever Lock Automatic Knife Blackwood (3.25" Satin)
I've carried my Milano 8" knife nearly every day for a year, so I believe it's safe to say I can now give this product a fair and solid review. Over the years, I've owned many automatic knives ranging from low quality junk to higher end collectables. When seeing the price range of this knife, I felt I was neither expecting greatness nor risking a huge loss...but what I bought soon became an everyday tool. My initial impression was a bit mixed. In the hand it's surprisingly solid. The weight was somewhat more than expected (which isn't an issue) and gives it a sturdy feel. The black wood handle however reflected the price range a bit more. The wood is dense, hard, and similar to bone or horn in appearance but the finish seems hurried. The edges are somewhat uneven and square, yet over time I've actually found this to be an asset. I considered smoothing down the handle but now believe it aids with grip...(but to each their own) The brass rivets could benefit from a light sanding as one is a touch too high but are set very solid and have never walked. Bolsters are bright and highly polished and show virtually no signs of "pocket wear" or hazing after a year of use. Surprisingly I found the blade quality to be very high with no obvious grind marks or scuffing and though you wont be shaving mosquitos with it, the edge was more than adequate for occasional use. The best part is action. It's smooth and positive and has not let me down one time. The lever is awkward at times and again the finish issue comes into view but is nothing that prohibits the use. If you're wanting a tough, reliable knife at an affordable price..then by all means GET THIS! But if you expect to open the package and find something reminiscent of a top shelf brand name beauty...then you're asking too much for the value. I will absolutely stand behind this one, not just for it's price, but for it's usefulness and reliability. I've cut everything from rope to leather belts with this knife and it's served me well. Then pros far outweigh the cons in my opinion and I wouldn't be afraid to recommend this knife to anyone.
