R. Stuart Florian first established American Standard Company in 1937 as a job shop for specialized tools, dies and metal stamping. In 1965 with the advent of the Ratchet-Cut® Pruning Tool developed and patented by Mr. Florian, the shop became a gardening tools manufacturer (Florian® Tools) almost exclusively. In 1980 Mr. Florian's three sons bought the business from their parents. Eventually Nathaniel Florian, the youngest brother became 100% owner. Since 1998 Nathaniel has shared ownership with his son Sean and daughter-in-law Beth Florian. Now a third generation family owned American Manufacturing Company, known as American Standard Company, it is parent company to Florian Tools; manufacturer of the original ratchet-cut pruning tools, employs twenty.
