7th Aug 2016

Other than its usefulness and practicality, another reason why knife lovers from all over the world are so fond of Swiss army knives is its durability. A good quality Swiss Army knife is guaranteed for life and does not need to be replaced. The perfect blend of form and function, these knives feature multiple tools including blade, toothpick, tweezers, can openers and nail files. Here is a breakdown of different tools that you can find in a Swiss army knife:

Blade: The size of the blade may vary from model to model. A Swiss Champ, however, has a straight edge blade with a spear point tip. The edge is around 58 mm long and is mostly used for cutting and slicing purpose. Some knives also feature a small blade with an edge of 36mm.

Corkscrew: This is used to uncork wine bottles. You can also use a corkscrew to get out knots.

Can opener: The first time a can opener featured in a Swiss Army knife was in 1817 and since then it has undergone numerous changes to evolve for the better. There is also a bottle opener for opening beer and other bottles.

Screwdriver: On the top of the bottle opener and can opener you can find screwdrivers 6mm and 3mm long respectively.

Saw: The Swiss Army knife also features a metal saw that is specially designed to cut metals.

Tweezers: Tweezers enable you to pick up things that are too petite to pick using your hands.

Scissors: A spring between the handles keeps the pair of scissors open.

Nail file and metal file: On one side of the knife you find a nail file and on the other side of the nail file is a metal file.

Multipurpose hook: A multipurpose hook comes handy when you are carrying heavy bags. The hook can hold items up to 200 lbs.

Pliers: Pliers have been added to the Swiss Army knife only lately and have functionality similar to that of the scissors. Just like the scissors, a spring keeps the tool open.

Wire cutter and crimper: These are two different tools used for cutting and connecting two wires respectively.

Pen: Yes, you read it right. A Swiss Army knife also comes with a pressurized ballpoint pen that enables the user to write in any angle.
